Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez Celebrate 20 Years!

1 October 2019

Organized since 1999, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez celebrates every year the rendez-vous of lovers of beautiful sailing yachts. Centennial sailboats alongside modern yachts in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, in a very competitive and friendly classic yachting atmosphere. The 2019 edition is very special since it celebrates the 20th anniversary of the regatta.

Two decades already! that the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez offers to the fans of the beautiful sails, every year before the autumn, a unique moment, dedicated to the multiple pleasures of the sea. Over a week, 300 boats, Classical and Modern, close to 4,000 sailors will again celebrate on the ground as on the water a way of living the sea, in a spirit of sharing and conviviality. 1999 -2019, the history of the Voiles was a highlight of the year, and this anniversary edition will be more joyful, more animated, sportier, and more spectacular than ever.

From September 28 to October 6, 2019, sublime sailboats often century-old, futuristic prototypes, maxi-yachts or Wally, a new village decidedly for sailors, and terrestrial festivities that the crews themselves will sublimate, all the ingredients are together to achieve a memorable event.

In 1999, Patrice de Colmont, creator of the Nioulargue – a racing week organized in Saint-Tropez between 1981 and 1995 – subsequently launched Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Since then, every year, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez organizes the most magnificent rendez-vous of the beautiful sailing yachts.

The village of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez has become a galleon. 2700 m2 of frames, masts and woodwork spread over several floors will accommodate 23 exhibitors.

A trophy for each group of sailing yachts: the Wally will compete for the BMW Trophy while the IRCA Superyachts over 27m will race for the Loro Piana Trophy. For the Classic Yachts, it is the class of Marconi era B – sailboats between 15 and 17m – which was selected this year to race for the Rolex Trophy. They will be 18 to compete this year.

5 IRC classes will allow yachtsmen of this category to complete their Mediterranean sporting season, while 6 groups will allow the classic yachts to compete on equal grounds and in accordance with their respective rigging.

Centennial yachts will be present: alongside ESTER (Mellgren plan of 1901), arriving on the circuit this year, you will find SUMURUN, a Fife plan of 1914. This Yawl Marconi of 35m is one of the last great cruising yachts still in the water designed by Fife. It has been restored for two years at the Guip yard in Brest and will be tacking in competition for the first time at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. And BLACK SWAN – a 34m Nicholson plan – a 120-year-old auric rig ketch will make its first appearance in the Gulf of Var.

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 6, from 11 am.

As every year in early autumn and just after the boat show season on the Riviera, Allied Yachting awaits you at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez to attend the regattas. Boaters can also choose to live the races as close as possible of this sporting event onboard one of our charter yachts.
