Cannes Day Charter – Rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera
4 April 2016
Allied Yachting provides the following guide on Cannes day charter, useful if you’re looking for the most appropriate vessel to rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera on board of a luxury yacht.
Day charter in Cannes is a wonderful and affordable opportunity to explore the unique beauty of the Mediterranean coastline on the French Riviera. Even if you come for a few days to the Cote d’Azur and you stay in a hotel, you can rent a luxury yacht and embark the very same morning! – Your charter broker at Allied Yachting will take care of your charter on shore and the crew will take care of you on board your luxury charter yacht. Even if day charters are more popular on last-minute calls in summer, you can also book these daily cruises in spring, fall and even winter if you require a taxi or participate in one of the many sporting events, congresses or exhibitions and regattas held yearly on the French Riviera.
Before you decide to rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera, it is important to plan how many guests will accompany you aboard, whether you choose to rent a motor yacht, sailing yacht or catamaran. Pleasure private or commercial yachts take up to 12 guests, or less, for navigation within coastal line, during a day charter. Allied Yachting luxury charter fleet also features a few vessels certified and capable of carrying up to 36 guests while in navigation for day-charters.
The size of a yacht will depend on your budget, however, please take under consideration that luxury Superyachts (from 30 m length) and mega yachts (from 50 m length) do not usually accept day charters, except for important events, planed long before aboard a day charter. In general, a minimum 4-day charter period is required by Superyachts and Mega Yachts.
Visitors of the French Riviera, stricken with the splendor of its coastline, often decide to book a charter for one day at the “last moment”, driven by their emotions, of course. Their first impulse is to come to the marina and look for a suitable boat. Very few charter agencies on the French Riviera like Allied Yachting, offer a choice of day-boats and luxury yachts up to 17 m size, ready to start a day-charter at any moment. You only need to choose any available yacht; sign the contract, pay with your credit card and off you go! – All this will take less than an hour of preparation. Snacks, fresh fruit, appetizers, cocktails and beverages will wait for your on-board of your yacht so all you have to do is plan your destination and enjoy your cruise. Day-charters usually depart at 09:00 or 10:00 am and the return is regularly at 07:00 pm but extensions can be agreed with the Captain.
It is possible to rent bigger, 20 – 28m yachts, for a day-charter, but this will require more time and preparation and will probably require from you being more flexible on the date. 4-5 Cabin motor and sailing yachts will give preference, in high season, for longer charter periods and they’re only likely to accept a day-charter to fill-in the gaps in between their almost-full booking calendar.
A charterer can hesitate, whether to opt for motor and sailing yacht, if his choice is on a motor boat, he can also choose from sports and fast, or flybridge motor yachts. Sport open motor yachts will navigate faster (but consume more fuel) and thus, you will see more while you rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera. Many clients prefer flybridge motor yachts because they benefit and enjoy from more social space being on the upper-deck and relaxing in company of family and friends. When you rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera beforehand, you can choose your menu and ask us for a suggestion on charter destinations for your day charter.
Our home-port Canto in Cannes is the perfect embarkation and departure point for a day-charter. A motor yacht can easily make a daily round-trip Cannes-Saint Tropez-Cannes or Cannes-Monaco-Cannes. The distance between Cannes and St Tropez is 21 miles and a motor yacht navigating at 20 knots, will cover this distance in 1h and 5 minutes without consuming excessive fuel. About the same distance exists between Cannes and Monaco. Either will make the perfect itinerary for your charter, knowing that, according to European maritime law for commercial vessels, a captain can only navigate for 4 h maximum during a day.
When you rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera, you can start your itinerary by visiting the islands of Lerins: two legendary islands in the bay of Cannes, situated right in front of Palm beach – the Eastern point of the bay of Cannes. The Sainte-Marguerite Island and the Saint Honorat Island will offer you exceptional atmosphere where a harmonious experience integrates leisure, culture and nature. If you choose to land for a short while, you should not forget to visit the Fort Royal, old residence of the Iron Mask, the Museum of the Sea, sheltered in the fort, the Lérins Abbey and the famous restaurant “La Guérite” to taste local cuisine. You may also prefer to finish your charter here, enjoying the spectacular sunset from a boat anchored in between the islands.
For your One day charter, make sure you have a variety of toys on board so you can benefit from your day-boat rental at fullest. If your charter yacht disposes of a jet-ski, the bay of Esterel, in Théoule-sur-Mer, is the ideal place to drive it. Jet-skiing in bay of Cannes is forbidden for security reasons. You can drive your jet-ski in security in the bay of Esterel, while the rest of your charter guests enjoy the “red porphyry” colour of the “Massif de l’Esterel” – a unique geographic site of volcanic origin. br>
When you plan to rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera, one of the most popular destinations is to spend most of your day in Saint-Tropez, ask you captain to bring you to one of the beach clubs and restaurants of the famous Pampelonne beach, where you can enjoy a lunch right on hot white sands. If you want to spend some time in the afternoon downtown, then berth your yacht in the Old port of Saint Tropez. However, finding a berth in high season here is a challenge; only a professional charter broker can help you book a berth in the Old port of Saint-Tropez. But you will see that this is worth it, when you will disembark in front of brasserie “Senequier”: one feels like a movie-star on the quay that has been a stage scene for so many legendary movies!
Further down, Port-Cros is the most easterly of the Golden Islands archipelago (Îles d’Or in French) including Porquerolles, Bagaud and the Levant Island. About forty miles from Cannes (2h and 15 mn), it offers sumptuous beaches and mooring spots in an exceptional archipelago governed by the strict regulations of the National Park of Port-Cros. For this destination, make sure to book a day before and take an early departure!
If you decide to rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera and visit Monaco, opt for embarkation in Cannes early, at 9 or 10 o’clock in the morning, so you can see the most splendid part of the coast during your charter. On your way you will certainly be impressed by sumptuous private villas and famous luxury “Belle-époque” Eden-Roc, on the Cap d’Antibes.
Arriving in the broad bay of Angels – “Baie des Anges”- you will be stricken with an open and stunning view of Nice, the capital of the French Riviera.
You may then want to make a stop in the bay of Villefranche, very quiet and beautiful, adored by yachting enthusiasts for its calmness and emerald clean waters. Do not miss Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat, the next small city famous for its most expensive real estate properties in the whole world! – If you have time, visit the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and her gardens, or simply admire her view from the sea, as well as gorgeous old pine trees, mounting on cliffs.
Beaulieu-sur-Mer, another jewel of the French Riviera, will offer you another opportunity to enjoy the view of multiple villas built in “Rococo” and “Belle-époque” styles, including the famous villa La Leopolda encircled by eight hectares of splendid gardens. If you want to have a ride on jet-ski or waverunner, but your yacht does not dispose any, then we suggest that you make another stop at the Mala beach, situated between Beaulieu and Cap-d’Ail. You can rent a jet-ski, alongside with any other toy you may like, and you will surely enjoy this most beautiful beach club secluded in between two high cliffs.
Turn round the Cap-d’Ail point and you are in Monaco! Arriving to the Principality of Monaco by yacht seems like a dream come true, doesn’t it? – One is spoilt for choice with places to visit in the impressive Principality of Monaco including opulent casinos, fragrant gardens and the Prince’s Palace (Palais Princier) along with the world famous Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix Circuit, all leading back to the popular port Hercules where some of the world’s finest Superyachts and Mega Yachts are moored and worth visiting, with its splendid new Monaco Yacht Club inaugurated in 2015!
Do not forget , when planning to rent a yacht for day-charters on French Riviera to investigate on famous events that happen here every year and that you can admire from on board of your charter. For example, every year, Cannes and Monaco host Firework festivals – a holiday of fireworks and music that last for six nights!
